Seahorse shutters
I feel like shutters are a dying art that you don’t see on many homes anymore. When you do see them, they are usually painted the same color as the house, which kind of defeats the purpose of having them in first place.
Take these shutters, for instance. Painted in a wonderful lapis blue, they are adorned with seahorse handles.
I just love the contrast of the barn door-like shutters against the shaker siding. The two of them wouldn’t usually go together, but in this scenario they are perfect partners.
The lapis blue seems to pull out some color from the shaker siding. Perhaps the white frame on the window breaks up the monotony of the blue against the dull brown/grey of the siding. I can also see beautiful white and yellow flower bushes in full bloom next to these seahorse shutters. There is some type of shrubbery in the foreground of the photo, but it must not be blooming yet.
I am going to take a guess here and say that this home is on the east coast. Just the choice of color, hardware, the siding and style of home screams cottage.
Either way, these shutters make this home.
