LOVE this!! Put a shelf over a window and use the shelf brackets to hold a curtain rod- genius and beautiful AND gives a completely finished off look. Finding extra space in new places is an exciting find. That’s why I love this idea so much. It adds space to an otherwise unused area and gives a completely finished look.
The first step of this project is to get out the measuring tape. You will need to know exactly how wide your windows are before shopping for shelving. You will want to take measurements on the outside of the window; from outside edge to outside edge. The shelf brackets will end up being secured to this area, so this is why you need to measure this area.
When you go to your local home improvement store look for reduced price shelves because why pay full price if you can find these items on sale. You will also need two shelf brackets for each window. The shelf brackets will hold the shelves in place and will hold a curtain rod for the window.
Once you have your items, you can start putting them in place. Secure the shelf brackets to the window trim and place the shelf on top. Run the curtain rod through the brackets and add your curtains. Done!
