I’ve done this before; it worked. I pulled out X amount for gas, extras, food, placed money in envelopes, and used what was alloted. It was awesome and kept me exactly on track each month.
Have you ever created a budget for yourself? Do you know exactly how much money goes where each month? If not, try this easy trick using envelopes to allot your money.
Start out simple. Maybe select areas that you are most concerned about or would like to reduce spending in. My suggestions would be: lunches, gas, and groceries. These are three areas that, off the top of your head, you can estimate how much you spend each month.
Now you need the envelopes. Any envelope will do as long as you label them according to their category. Now slip in the monthly amount and your set! Every time you go out for lunch, pull the funds from the lunch envelope. When you run out, make a note as to when it happened so you know how much you overspent in this category. If you end up with cash at the end of the month, congratulations! You did well and stayed on track.
Have fun budgeting!
