Cozy Breakfast Nook –
Who doesn’t want a breakfast nook over the traditional dinner table? Nooks like this one remind me of homes built in the 1940s that were much smaller than homes built today. As a result, cozy breakfast nooks like this were designed to keep family members from running into each other in the kitchen.
What’s nice about putting a cozy breakfast nook in your own home is that it not only brings you back to a time of simplicity, tradition and utility, but has many other fun connotations: It is like having a restaurant booth in your own home. And this cozy nook can include most any table you desire. Gone is the cold, laminated counter top associated with a restaurant, replaced by a solid wood table that is much warmer and more cozy. And in your own home you always get the window seat.
It is easy to miss the small things in creating a space like a cozy breakfast nook. More convenient storage space is created by placing drawers or shelves under the seats and even the table itself can have a drawer or two. I love the bookcases in this example. Are you tired of getting the salt and pepper? Maybe salt and pepper bookends would be the coup de gras.
